POTOSI

POTOSI the imperial city
With more than 4000 meters of altitude, struck by the blizzard of the Andes and its so close sun, is staged the Impériale city of Potosi, which after three centuries of ostentation is today a deadened city.
The thirty-three churches and convents, the impressive colonial houses and fabulous Casa of Moneda remained fixed a such immutable stage set. During four centuries, Potosi was the navel of colonial Spain like Cuzco, space the one century was that of the INCA Empire.
With its apogee, Potosi was a paradise of pleasures and disproportionate luxuries, between 1545 and 1802, the production reached 40.000 tons of money.

Today Potosi is a village which appears relegated very far out of time.
Cerro Rico dominates Potosi of its 5000 meters of altitude. The city is built on a slope which goes down abruptly in space a few kilometers. The district of Kantumarka, sits of the oldest residences of the city, is located all in bottom.
The center located around the plaza principal, is dominated by the cathedral and Put it of Moneda, a few meters lower. Bolivar Calle, the "boulevard" Potosinos, is the commercial artery of the city.
One of the most charming aspects of the city is due to its walks under the balconies out of wooden, along the old paved streets, bordered of walls to the clear colors.
In 1987 UNESCO decreed the title of Inheritance of Humanity with Potosi.
