Agriculture extensive and is varied and includes 75% of the incomes by exports. Traditionally the principal culture is the coffee (Colombia is the second world producer), but the reduction of the production and the fall of the prices contributed to substitution by other products as sugar, the bananas, the flowers and cotton.
The export of the articles manufactured, textile, leather articles, products metal, chemical, medicinal, and cement, increased considerably.
Colombia also has reserves crude oil and its deposits of coal are most important of Latin America, but its development was rather slow.
The country had a stable development of the GDP (Gross domestic product) of an average of 4% during the Eighties and Nineties although the budget deficit increased because of the rise of expenses of safety to solve violence.
Colombia is member of the Andean Pact and the Latin-American Association of Integration (ALADI). In more it is allied with Venezuela and Mexico in a programme of zone of free trade during ten years.
The United States, Spain, Germany, Japan and Venezuela is the principal trade partners of Colombia.
