The
northern coast of the province of Holguín presents,
on the one hand, the beaches of Guardalavaca and, on the
other hand, the old town of Gibara, located on from now
on celebrates bay of Bariay, where Christophe Colomb accosted
on October 27, 1492. Here, the dish of the center of the
province yields its place to an undulating area, heralding
the high mountains of the east of the country.
Capital
of the province of the same name, Holguín constitutes,
by its population, the third city of the country. Founded
in 1752 by the general captain García Holguín,
the city still has some vestiges of colonial architecture,
good museums and a passably animated cultural life.
Towards
the northern coast, the road penetrates in a mountainous
zone, the Sierra of Crystal. Here typical houses with roof
of sheets of palm tree broods in the folds of the valleys.
A few hundred meters before Guardalavaca, Parks it Natural
Bahía de Naranjo lends itself well to excursions
at sea. A visit of its aquarium and a bathe with the dolphins
are there of setting. Guardalavaca is defined as a seaside
resort offering of beautiful beaches, superb sea-beds and
the modern hotel complexes.
