Cancún
is a young city, so young that very resident born before 1974
came besides! You have the balneal city here par excellence.
On the economic plan, its 350.000 inhabitants depend almost
exclusively on tourism and the related activities. It acts of
city carefully planned, whose construction began only into 1969
pennies the directives from an government agency from the name
from Fonatur (national acronym for Fonds of tourism), which
remains the project superintendent about it even today, with
a rather strict payment as for the assignment of the grounds.
There
exists a rigid separation between the hotel zone, along the
beaches, on a long and narrow isthmus in form from 7
with bridges at the two ends, and the city like such, located
on what it is agreed to call the continent. The Kukulcán
boulevard (badly conceived for the pedestrians) crosses all
the hotel zone and leads to the downtown area; the service
of bus is frequent and effective there (until in medium of
evening, less frequent thereafter), and the taxis have accessible
tariffs. The most important way of the downtown area is Avenida
Tulum, bordered of restaurants, shops, supermarkets and banks.
Before
1969, there was only the village of fishermen of Puerto Juárez,
in the northern suburbs of what is now Cancún. Today,
in addition to one modern and prosperous city compared to
the Mexican standards, one finds a long collar of hotels with
multiple stars opposite pretty beaches of a whiteness étincelante
to turquoise water. Several hotels are of a whimsical architecture,
often in the shape of pyramid; the whole can seem to come
very right from another planet! All is conceived for the comfort
and the rest of the visitors, and the majority of them come
there with a simple aim of prélasser under the tropical
sun, or to take part in some sports activities, or to go to
the discotheque the come night (with the proviso of not having
the too fragile ears).
If you
are in the search of entertaining activities will know that
certain hotels propose evenings with music and meals typical,
sometimes even of the spectacles of local folk ballet. Some
nightclubs, either in the hotels, or in the downtown area,
also present orchestras of salsa and other rates/rhythms tropical.
The last week of May is held a jazz festival to with it.
On the
spot, the tourist attractions as such are limited to the beaches,
the sporting installations of the hotels and the shopping
malls. However one can also make an excursion in the island
of Cozumel for the diving, or visit the archeological sites
of Chichén Itzá, in the west, or of Tulum and
Cobá, in the south (this last is more interesting but
further also).
The opinions
are divided on Cancún. Some there see paradise terrestrial
(the very great number of visitors and hotels indicates that
they are not only), others, an artificial place and pain-killer.
With you to decide. It should be noted that the price scale
is higher in Cancún than elsewhere in Mexico. For a
lunch of environment outside the hotel, think of Mercado 28
(sea-CA-C bein-Ti-0-tcho decides), a government
contract located in a residential zone, close to the downtown
area (all the taxi drivers know this place), which counts
several restaurants with terrace proposing of the typical
meals at very reasonable prices. Not to miss: preparations
of seafood to the mode of Veracruz.
