The State
d' Oaxaca, whose capital of the same name attracts many tourists,
is regarded as more Indian of Mexico. The many tribes
which live there preserved their lifestyle as if the Spaniards
had never conquered the country, contrasting with the town of
Oaxaca which preserved its colonial seal.
Twenty percent of the total Indian population of Mexico lives
in this State, and 20% of this same population do not speak
a word about Spanish. Mixtèques and Zapotèques
are the most important ethnos groups of the area of Oaxaca,
which is also populated of fifteen other tribes.
To 1500
meters of altitude, almost to the foot of Assembles Alban,
Oaxaca located at the intersection of three large valleys,
is surrounded by mountains of 2000 meters. With their top,
the imposing constructions set up formerly by the Indians
rise.
The town
of Oaxaca
Oaxaca enorgueillit to have the most beautiful church of Mexico:
Santo Domingo, built by the Dominican ones as from 1575. The
showpiece of this church, is the family tree of Marie,
masterpiece of gilded stucco recalling the origins of the
Madonna.
regional museum of Oaxaca
Placed in the old convent Santo Domingo, this formidable museum
exposes ethnological interest and objets d'art, including
the tribal and regional craft industry. But the principal
treasures of its collections are the gold and jade found in
the seventh tomb of Assembles Alban.
Museum Put Benito Juarez
It is the house or the future president, then young boy, had
been employed in the capacity as servant. The museum informs
us about the living conditions of the middle-class at the
beginning of the XIXe century with Oaxaca. It also exposes
documents, of which correspondence of Juarez, and the death
mask of the president.
Indian Community museum
Ten Indian communities expose objects of the daily life and
help to include/understand the history of the indigenous villages.
In the
surroundings of Oaxaca
2000 meter from altitude, Assembles it Alban was built by
unknown people, probably influenced by Olmèques. It
is one of the archaeological whole most impressive of Mexico,
which with its apogee counted 35.000 inhabitants, and covered
a surface of 40 km ² at the final stage.
