JOSE MARTI

Jose Martí is certainly the man more glorifié by the cuban people, which regard it as the largest martyr and the apostle of the fight for independence.
Jose Martí was born in Havana on January 20, 1853. Quickly it engaged in the anti-colonial fight, at fifteen years, already, it founded a nationalist newspaper, at 16 years it was stopped for treason and was condemned to six years of forced labors.
Released six months later and assigned with residence, it was off-set in Spain during four years. Its exile continued in France, in England, in Mexico.
An amnesty of the political prisoners enables him to return to Cuba, where it was stopped and returned again to Spain.
It settled in New York, where lived many the exiled cuban ones, and during the fifteen years which followed it devoted without slackening to the political activity within the cuban revolutionary party.
Its objective was to obtain the independence of Cuba while being based on the people and the oppressed masses, to obtain the racial equality, economic equality and the equality of the sexes.
It unloaded on the island in 1895, and was killed at the time of its first battle against the Spaniards, on May 19, 1995.
