Astonishing voyage that that which goes from
Lima to Huancayo, the railway line built at the end of the
19éme century crosses several rivers and climbing of
the tops to vertiginous heights, thanks to some 54 bridges,
68 tunnels and 1.154 turns. It is the railroad highest of
the world (4.800m). During this voyage 10 hours, one discovers
varied landscapes, green at the beginning, then increasingly
arid and wild.
The train passes by Jauja which was the first capital of Peru,
the sunniest city of Peru.
Huancayo, town of 80.000 inhabitants whose
principal interest is the Sunday market (famous and rich into
object of craft industry).
The town of Ayacucho (2.761m of altitude) is one of oldest
and most beautiful of the country. Founded in 1539 by the
Spaniards to be used as relay between Lima and Cuzco, she
knew a long period of richness as testify to it its cathedral,
its innumerable churches of the 16 & 17éme centuries,
its university, its colonial residences. D' Ayacucho, one
can visit the sites of Huari, the great civilization précolombienne
which radiated at the beginning of our era.
