MACHU-PICCHU

Machu Picchu remained hidden during centuries until 1911, date on which professor Hiram Bingham made known it in the whole world.
Machu Picchu is not only one jewel of architecture INCA, the crowned city is especially the supreme expression of the work of the man in harmony with the environment; it is a citadel located at the top of a narrow peak above the turbulent river, beaten by the intense wind of the escarpées mountains of the Amazonian buttress
The archaeological unit is divided into two sectors called Agricole and Urbain where are places, temples, palates, warehouses, workshops, staircases and fountains which are arranged on the two sectors out of some 10 to 20 ha each one.

It is obvious that Cusco, the capital of the State INCA, was taken for model in the architectonic distribution of the site bus Machupicchu has all the urban elements adapted to the sinuosity of the ground and the various unevennesses.
The archaeological excavations carried out after the visit of Bingham made it possible to conclude that the ground was embanked as a preliminary with a material which does not belong to the site, since the ground of this last, formed by a granite base, is very low in fertile ground.

Visite of the site:
Machu Picchu is divided into districts separated mainly by the central esplanade. The religious buildings are recognized and the houses inhabited by the notable ones with the stones which are joined perfectly, whereas for the other houses, one used adobe between the stones much more coarsely cut.

Among the various districts one finds:
The district of the farmers, with its cultivated terraces and a clever system of irrigation and drains in zigzag.
The district of the prisons, which would have been a place of sacrifice.
The industrial district which was devoted to domestic and artisanal activities.
The royal tomb, which was can be a tomb of INCA. It is to be noticed, the steps and the niches cut in the rock.
The street of the Fountains is an astonishing lane made up of a series of small basins laid out the ones following the others.
The house of the INCA is recognizable with its particularly neat stone equipment.
Intiwatana, the astronomical observatory is the highest place of the most mysterious city and.
The watchtower which dominates all the site offers the most beautiful sight.
