The southern coast of Peru is more arid
still than that of north. In this desert which one often
compared with that of the Sahara, the populations were confronted
with conditions geographical and climatic different, but
as difficult as those of the Andean areas. Magré
all, they managed not only to domesticate their environment
by the irrigation, but also to develop admirable artistic
techniques, as ceramics of Nazca and the fabrics of Paracas
prove it, perfectly preserved by the dry climate.

and sites to be discovered.
Pachacamac
With approximately 30km in the south of Lima draw up the ruins
of Pachacamac. They are made of approximately 15 pyramids
to degrees built in adobe, but which are for the majority
in bad state or with half buried in sand.
To appreciate the visit, it is preferable to be accompanied
by a guide, indeed the religious significance of the ruins
requires some explanations.
Pisco
Located at 230km in the south of Lima. It was founded in 1640
and gave its name to national drink: Pisco. The visitors usually
go in the town of Pisco, to leave in boat to discovered bay
Paracas or of Parks Nacional Paracas, located fifteen kilometers
more at the south.
Islas
Ballestras
Islas Ballestras are often presented like "Galápagos
of the poor", because one finds there a quantity impressive
of otaries and birds of sea, like the penguins, similar so
that one observes in the Galápagos islands in Ecuador.
It is unfortunately not possible to visit the islands with
foot, only the people who collect guano are authorized there.
While moving away you from the shore, you will have the occasion
to observe the gigantic candelabrum carved on the side of
a cliff. This géoglyphe unexplained of a size of approximately
200 m length on 60 m broad is associated the Nazca culture.
During the way, and with a little chance, you will be able
to see dolphins.
Reserva
Nacional Paracas
Reserva Nacional Paracas was created in 1975, it is spread
out over 335 000 hectares including 117 400 ha on the firm
ground and 217 600 ha over the sea. The reserve includes a
small museum, two picturesque villages of fishermen and gives
refuge to many species of birds, terrestrial or marine, of
which the brown pelican and pink Flemish.
Nazca
The small town of Nazca attracts many visitors who come to
fly over his territory with an aim of seeing the mysterious
lines of Nazca.
The best means to observe the lines of Nazca and to embark
on a small aircraft, which during more or less 45 minutes
will enable you to observe the various drawings plotted on
the ground. The ticket will cost you from 40 to 50 US dollars.
For the least fortunate it is possible since a small watchtower
of observation located at approximately 30km of Nazca, to
see some drawings of which the hand with four fingers and
the tree.
Close to this watchtower, a small museum was created in the
honor of Maria Reiche.

Chauchilla
With approximately 20km in the south of Nazca, a quite strange
cemetery lost in the beautiful medium of the desert deserves
the turning. With the free air, one does not find there many
craniums, abundant chevelures, bones and even of the complete
skeletons. It is the extreme dryness of the Peruvian coast
which allowed the conservation of these burials.
Arequipa
Located at 2 400 meters of altitude, the beautiful town of
Arequipa constitutes a pleasant stage and which also has in
its surroundings of curiosities geological and geographical
which makes the happiness of good of visitors.
