Divized
between Peru and Bolivia with 3636m of altitude, the lake
Titicaca is the most navigable lake of the world with a maximum
depth of 280m. It covers more than 8.000 km² and counts
forty islands. This area is incontestably that where the Indian
culture remained most alive.
Puno, 60.000 inhabitants, is a large founded borough trading
in 1666. It is also the center artisanal and folk of the area,
its music is richest of the Andes and one counts there more
than 300 local dances.
During the festivals of the Candlemas, during one week, the
streets become animated musics and dances. At the artisanal
market of Laykakota have find many products, in particular
the fabrics out of alpaca: covers, ponchos multi-coloured,
skirts with the colors with the natural colors, costumes embroidered,
Peruvian bonnets, ceramics an intense activity reigns on the
lake, Puno is the starting point of the majority of the excursions.
The most famous islands of the lake Titicaca are the floating
islands of Uros. This visit makes it possible to discover
a single way of life... on these islands, all is built in
reed: the houses, the schools and to the ground itself, all
rests on made piles of trunks of eucalyptus. Apart from the
clothes industry of all kinds of objects in reed, their inhabitants
live fishing, hunting for the birds and harvest of lake plants.
The ISLAND
OF TAQUILLE
On the lake Titicaca, the best place to discover the regional
traditions is the island of Taquille. the inhabitants were
organized to manage them same all the activities related to
tourism, thus hoping for proteger their way of life. There
is no hotel with Taquille but one can spend there the night
at the inhabitant, Taquilles are famous for their hospitality.
One can visit there the Incas ruins disseminated in the hills.

The ISLAND
Of AMANTANI
Amantani is on the way to become one of the tourist places
of South America. The visitor will be able to immerse himself
in an Andine company which preserved the same traditions since
centuries. The most populated and prettiest of the islands
of the lake Titicaca, with its patios decorated with climbing
plants and its small stone benches. It contains also some
archaeological vestiges.
