Principal dates of the history of Venezuela



1498 Christophe Colomb arrived on these coasts of Venezuela.


April 19, 1810 In Caracas, a town council engaged the process of independence with Miranda to the orders of the armies.


1811 Miranda was captured by Spanish in and died in prison.


1812 and 1813 Simon Bolivar succeeds in installing a government in Caracas.


1814 Tomás Boves, faithful to the crown of Spain, overcame Bolivar issued the freedom of the slaves and carried out ground divisions between the peasants.


1819 The Congress of Angostura created Large Colombia, by linking Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and Panama.


1830 The Páez General declared the separation of Venezuela of Large Colombia.


1908 Juan Vicente Gómez seized the power and controlled during 17 years as a dictator.


Between 1945 and 1961 Several dictatorships followed one another.


February 1992 The opposition, with the assistance of the army, which asked for a rise of the wages, tried a coup d'etat. But the other armed forces declared their fidelity with the government.
